  • Yormick & Associates Lawyers Presenting at Ohio Aerospace Institute

    12/9/08: Penetrating Foreign Markets: Opportunities and Challenges for Aerospace & Defense Manufacturers

    December 2, 2008 – Jon Yormick and Mark Sundahl are presenting at an Ohio Aerospace Institute program on December 9 aimed at assisting aerospace and defense companies successfully enter global markets. The half-day program is complimentary, but registration is required. The event will be held at OAI’s President’s Room, beginning at 8:00 am and concluding at noon. The event co-sponsor is TechLift.     Mark Sundahl will lead off the program with an overview and presentation on ways in which to enter foreign markets. Jon Yormick will present on compliance with U.S. export control regulations and strategies for protecting trade secrets. Sean Corson of the Ohio Department of Development, Global Markets Division, will discuss assistance available from the State of Ohio. Rob Whittall and Tony Constantine of Cohen & Company will present on Domestic International Sales Corporations, and R & D tax credits, respectively.

    Mark Sundahl serves as Of Counsel to the firm and leads the Aerospace & Defense Practice. He also concentrates on International Business Transactions and Cross-Border Agreements. Mark is a professor of law at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and a member of the International Institute of Space Law and a member of the Space Working Group for the UNIDROIT Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment. He is admitted to practice in California and Ohio.

    Jon Yormick is the firm’s founder and Managing Attorney of the firm’s offices in Buffalo, Cleveland, and Washington, D.C. He practices in the areas of Export Controls, Economic Sanctions, & Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, International Arbitration & Litigation, and the firm’s Canada Practice.   • Yormick & Associates Launches Aerospace & Defense Practice; Adds Washington Presence

    November 24, 2008 - Yormick & Associates today announces the formation of its Aerospace and Defense Practice.  The firm has also established a Washington, D.C. office.

    The firm’s Aerospace and Defense Practice will concentrate on advising small and middle market companies that produce components used in commercial and military aircraft, space launch vehicles, satellites, propulsion units, lighter-than-air vehicles, missiles, and develop other defense technologies.  “We have been fortunate to advise companies in these sectors on various matters,” stated Managing Attorney, Jon Yormick.  “Organizing the Aerospace and Defense Practice allows us to better focus our services to companies in these fields and emphasize this growing part of our firm.”

  • Mark Sundahl provided an update on the Space Assets Protocol to the UNIDROIT Cape Town Convention for Space Law Probe (spacelawprobe.blogspot.com). Mark is a member of the UNIDROIT working group charged with drafting the Space Assets Protocol to the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment. He noted that while substantial progress has been made, greater support from the space industry is needed to create a protocol that will benefit existing companies and space entrepreneurs. Mark wrote that a “progressive law of secured transactions is particularly important in the current environment of reduced liquidity since lenders are now looking for greater security.”

    On November 19, Mark Sundahl will be appearing on The Space Show® (www.thespaceshow.com). The show focuses on important issues influencing the development of outer-space commerce and space tourism.
  • Mark Sundahl will speak at Globalizing Secured Credit Law in San Diego.  Thomas Jefferson School of Law and the Center for Global Legal Studies are sponsoring the 2-day conference to be held on November 9-10.  Mr. Sundahl will give presentations on “Secured Credit Law in Historical Context” and “Secured Transactions in the Middle East and Islamic Law.”  More information about the conference can be found at

  • Jon Yormick was quoted in a recent Buffalo Law Journal article entitled, “Protecting IP takes vigilance, funding.”  The paper quoted Mr. Yormick on using the trade remedy under Section 337 of the Trade Act of 1930, which allows rights’ holders to obtain exclusionary orders to prohibit the import of counterfeit goods.  He also suggested how companies need to proactively register their IP rights internationally.  The article can be found at www.buffalolawjournal.com/article_view.asp?IDNO=920200712
